Japan Guide

Our family has lived in Japan now for two years and we love it. Every weekend we seem to stumble across a new restaurant, a new store, or a new site to visit. We’re struggling to learn Japanese but we have learned enough so that we can go anywhere we want to in Japan, and so we take advantage of the great transportation system and explore new sights and places.

We are often asked about ideas for people who are coming to Japan for either travel or living. I’ve decided to combine our collective “wisdom” in one place and share it here on the site. I hope this is useful to someone; it feels like we’ve learned a lot!

Caveats -- every family is different. While we love Japanese foods, we know people that have lived in Japan for years that never eat Japanese foods. We love Japanese art, some people hate it. We aren’t into clubbing, but we understand that there is a huge clubbing scene in Tokyo (probably after my bedtime though). So this site is strictly our experiences, likes and dislikes. Your mileage may differ.
